On the eastern side of the strongest winds, blowing snow is also expected -- either snow that has already fallen and is picked up from the ground, or new snow from the new storm. A winter weather advisory is in place from North Dakota to Iowa for gusts between 40 and 50 mph, with snow accumulations up to one inch.

Hit and miss snow showers will continue on and off through the evening. The strong wind will continue to create blowing snow/reduced visibility where it is snowing. As we head into the weekend, it is going to be a very cold one,

“Snow squalls pose serious threats to personal safety and property and produce costly transportation disruptions due to multi-vehicle pileups,” the NWS warns. “There is no safe place on a highway when snow squalls are approaching.”

Multiple systems are pushing across the Northern Tier of the country this week, bringing heavy snow to the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Northeast.
