For the past few weeks, our incredible Band of Builders volunteers have been transforming Mike and Christine’s home after their lives were turned upside down. Mike, a retired builder, began adapting the house himself so his wife Christine who lives with dementia could have a safe, accessible ground-floor space. But after he was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer and later a serious heart condition, everything came to a halt. That’s when Band of Builders stepped in, with over 60 volunteer

The Zoo Crew teen volunteers recently got their hands dirty for conservation with a field trip to Tanque Verde Creek. Under the leadership of the Watershed Management Group River Run Network, the Zoo Crew spent the day removing invasive arundo grass from the creek. Arundo donax (giant reed) drinks up to 3-4 times as much water as native desert plants, crowds out native species/habitat, and increases the risk of flooding/wildfire. Way to go teens! | Reid Park Zoo
